This was selected as Best Answer Another area you need to consider is that the security issues facing the world will help keep freight forwarders alive. As a professional that has worked in both arenas the security related issues are a challenge. Prior to 9/11, we were seeing changes in what shipments you could hand over to the intergrators and what shipments you had to give to all cargo carriers. The days of the general public walking up to the counter and handing a shipment over to the airlines is waning. Freight Forwarders will continue to survive because they provide a valueable service to the shipping of goods. They not only provide the exporting expertise but importing as well (this is where they make a lot of their money). The exporting side of the industry, in my opinion, is the easiest but can also be the less profitable side of the business. It is the importing side of the industry where freight forwarders make their money.
