If I am using a Person to aid in an attack and the target Monsters defense ability forces me to discard that Person, do I still receive the benefit of that Person? What about Items?
Monster defense abilities (Attack Phase 3) occur before the Scout/Knight delivers damage (Attack Phase 4). Consequently, Persons cannot assist you if they are forced to the discard pile. Items work a little differently. If the Item (such as Ofuda Scroll) is used and then discarded before the attack in Step 3: Use Cards, then the Item is already in the discard pile and is still effective – the Monster’s defense ability cannot force it to be discarded. If the Item (such as Mini-Computer & VR Goggles) is used during an attack, it is similarly used and discarded at the beginning of the attack and still benefits the Scout/Knight (Monster defense ability does not affect these Items). If the Item (such as Knight Armor) is attached to a Scout/Knight/Monster/Villain, then the Monster’s defense ability forces it to the discard pile before it can be used.
