Hi, I am a trained singer and voice teacher, and I wanted to offer some thoughts on your questions. First, we can’t really hear ourselves sing. The vocal cords are located in the throat and the sounds the voice makes resonates in our own heads. That means that we’re not really good judges of our own voices. Even the very best singers rely on feedback from a voice teacher, recordings, and – most importantly – the sensations of singing to know if they’re doing things right. Second, it may be that you have a lower voice than you’d like. But really low voices are quite rare – so if you have one, count yourself lucky! Keep in mind, though, that 16 is really, really young in singing years.
