If I were to create a word list of all the jobs I did last year, would I still want to save all my transcripts in ASCII format in a SearchMaster directory?
A. Yes, you would. Remember that a word list is just that — a listing of single words, one word on each line. So if all you had was a word list, how would you search all your transcripts for a doctor’s name, and only a doctor’s name, that begins with the letter A and ends with the letter z, and see in which transcript(s) his name appears, as opposed to just finding all words that begin with the letter A and end with the letter z? If you were searching transcripts, you would search for “Dr. A*z,” but you can’t perform that kind of a search on an index that has only one word on each line. Therefore, it is strongly advised that you make ASCII versions of ALL of your transcripts, and that you store ALL of your transcripts in SearchMaster subdirectories. Only in this way can you assure yourself that when you most need to find something from one of your jobs, you will be able to do so. Q.
