If the hospital reviewer doesnt know the diagnosis code, could the HSI nurse provide it?
HSI utilization review coordinators are not coders and do not have the benefit of direct access to the physicians documented admitting diagnosis. They are not permitted to interpret information provided by the hospital and to provide the code. HSI encourages the hospitals review staff to consult with the hospitals coders if assistance is needed.
