If you plant some Granny Smith apples, will granny smith trees start to grow?

The apple will not grow a tree but the seeds inside the apple certainly can start a tree. Apples propagated themselves for centuries by the fruit rotting or insects eating it and the seeds were then released to fall on the ground. However, since the Granny Smith is a hybrid (of the Green Pippin apple), and most likely a grafted tree, your tree may not grow true, form perfect fruit, or may not produce fruit at all.
