It would actually be a bad idea to integrate any ‘smart’ technology into the fabric of any building. We are already seeing the problems caused by integrating technology in many buildings of the 60s and 70s. They are now being demolished because it’s cheaper than replacing the outdated technology!
The structure of any building will outlast any ‘smart’ technology, which gets updated on a more frequent basis.
‘Smart’ technology should be designed as ‘fittings’ rather than as ‘fixtures’ or ‘built in’:
– cables in conduit rather than embedded in plaster.
– use the technology to adapt to buildings rather than adapt the buildings to suit the technology.
– design buildings to be adaptable and flexible, to allow for future changes in technology, rather than designing buildings around technology which has a much shorter lifecycle.
– etc

Whole-house automation technology is the future of home design. Our homes will tell us when they need repairs, they will set our temperature and lighting for us, run our appliances and perform countless other tasks too numerous to mention here.

A primer on the topic might be a good place to start: iRidium serverĀ https://iridi.com/server/ it is a controller for automation systems and IoT. Wider capabilities of lite and pro (logics, data bases, trends, remote control)
