Typically cataracts will develop in both eyes. If only one eye has a cataract, only one implant is necessary. The surgeon usually operates on the 'non-dominant' eye first. Your doctor will look at a number of factors in deciding which eye to implant first and when, if necessary, to implant the other eye. The time between surgeries may vary based on how well the first eye is healing and the visual outcome.
