All flat top segments in glass are made from a high index piece, which is higher in index than the major portion of the lens and is Fused into the blank. As glass becomes higher in index it becomes more sensitive to chemical attack. Liquids, vapors and liquids, which are high in PH including the salt baths used to chemically strengthen the lens can Etch the segment glass making it, appear hazy. These can be polished to remove the haze.
