“White” is not a race, it’s a skin tone. Elves, dwarves and hobbits are races. Perhaps they just have a genetic predisposition to fair skin. Also remember that Tolkein based a lot of his work on Nordic lore in the first place. Being a Nordic person myself (though I now live in the US) I can tell you that you don’t see a whole lot of darker folks in Northern Europe. We tend to be quite pale. Oh, if you go by the D&D monster manuals (I believe that’s where they are listed) there ARE black elves. They’re called “drow elves” and they generally live underground. I’ve always wondered about that since living underground tends to make one fair skinned. Then I remembered that in Germanic lore (bear in mind the Scandinavians – Nordic folks – are one of the original Germanic tribes so our lore is very similar) there were also elves that dwelt underground. Their home is called “schwarzalbenheim” which would roughly translate to “home of the black elves”. So it’s not some huge, fantasy and mytholog
