In soccer, if two teams are level on points and goal difference, what happens next?
If two teams in a league share the same number of points, the team with the best goal difference is ranked higher. If the teams have the same goal difference, the team which has scored the most goals will be ranked higher. If the teams have score the same number of goals, then the team with the best record in matches only involving those two teams will be ranked higher. If the teams still cannot be separated, and the season is ended, then a lottery may be used to decide which team is higher. To other answerers, it is rare in league football in most countries to insist on a winner and a loser in a league game. Most national leagues allocate 3 league points for a win, 1 for a draw, and 0 for a loss.
