The AIF and NZ troops were heading towards france when they were stopped in Egypt, as they were passing though the area it was decided to use them with the British and French troops on the attack on Gallipoli, as such they spent time in Egypt training before attacking Gallipoli. They did not fight in any of the battles on the western front during 1914/15 the only commonwealth troops on the western front during this period were Canadian and South African.
