No, you’ll find that a 17 foot boat is too small for any sort of serious lobster potting. It would only take a few traps to fill the boat completely. You still need room for live tanks, trap launching and recovery, markers, lines, etc. etc. Most lobster boats on the Atlantic coast are over 40 feet and on a bad day, that’s still not very big. Also, a deep-vee or modified vee style hull may be better suited than a tri-hull. Once the sea state picks up you need a good bow to cut into the oncoming waves. Tri-hulls are nice and stable in flat water conditions but don’t handle heavy weather very well.
