Is a full time National Guard job etter than being active duty Air Force?
In the guard, you do not PCS every 3 or 4 years. That is usually “better” for most folks. There are separate regs and promotion schedules for the guard than for active duty. There can be limited training opportunities in the guard and opportunities for advancement. The career fields are not as varied as the active duty. It can be hard to find a slot you are qualified for. That is usually not “better” for most folks. The guard units are very close knit. You usually have to apply and be accepted into the unit. Many have complained that they were excluded for reasons other than their qualifications, but there is no way to prove it. They don’t have to justify who they accept and who they reject. Not sure where that falls on “better” meter. I have served with some folks that I wish had been excluded from my unit. The guard units can sometimes be treated like “stepchildren” by the Air Force.
