Nitrous oxide is a general anaesthetic at about 70% concentration and so to get people ‘high’ you would need 20 -50 % at least I believe. A small room might have a volume of about 50 cubic metres and so to actually knock people out would require about 35 cubic metres of N2O. At room temperature this would correspond to about 1500 moles of gas which for nitrous oxide is about 65 Kg. That’s a big grenade! If you squirted it into a person’s face then the amount you would need would obviously be much less but I doubt if it would be feasible as it would diffuse away to quickly. I’m loosing my faith in Marvel comics.
