No. A DBA is more professionally-oriented (a master’s on steroids) while a Ph.D. is research-oriented. To go into academia, you want a Ph.D. What about getting a doctorate online? Getting a doctorate online will qualify you to teach online or at a community college. That’s about it. Are there private sector applications for a Ph.D. in marketing? Yes, especially for modelling. But the statistical component of most any Ph.D. program is a good fit for marketing jobs. But, if your end game is to get a “regular job”, you are likely better off with a high quality master’s or MBA. What’s the pay? According to ELMAR‘s annual survey, first year marketing Ph.Ds in Marketing make, on average, $140K their first year out. The financial upward mobility is not huge, capping out in the $180K-$200K range. You can also supplement that with writing and consulting.
