However, DNA from cheek swabs can be used, provided that sufficient amounts of DNA of the entire genome from each individual can be generated and made available to the scientific community at the expense of the investigator. Given that current cheek swab methods may not provide sufficient amounts of high quality DNA and because high throughput genotyping of cheek swab DNA is difficult, blood remains the preferred specimen.
