Is aspirin a pure substance or a mixture?
Aspirin is a single substance and can be made in pure form. However, aspirin can be combined with pharmacologically inert binders to keep it in pill form in the bottle without having small pieces of the tablets chip or wear off against each other and with starches that expand when wet to help the pill break up faster in the stomach. Aspirin also chemically breaks down over time, especially when exposed to heat and moisture, losing potency.
