IS BISPHENOL A USED IN PLUMBING PRODUCTS AND DRINKING WATER TREATMENT UNITS?
Polycarbonate, a plastic manufactured from bisphenol A, may be used in plumbing products or drinking water treatment products, such as filters and water storage containers. Epoxy coatings, which are manufactured from bisphenol A, may be used to line water storage tanks or water pipes. HOW CAN CONSUMERS AVOID EXPOSURE TO BISPHENOL A THROUGH DRINKING WATER? Consumers should purchase DWTUs and plumbing components that have been tested and approved by an independent testing organization, such as the Water Quality Association (WQA). It is possible that materials used in the manufacture of drinking water treatment products, such as polycarbonate and epoxy coatings, contain very small amounts of bisphenol A. However, the bisphenol A will not necessarily be transferred to drinking water that contacts bisphenol A-containing materials. Independent testing organizations can test drinking water contact materials to determine if transfer of bisphenol A to drinking water occurs. WHAT ALTERNATIVE MAT
