I would say it is as much of a sport as Golf, Archery, Gymnastics, and many Track & Field events. Bowling is most like Golf. They both have multiple choices (clubs vs. bowling balls) that need to be made depending on the condition (greens, rough, wind etc, vs. lane conditions and transition) There is a certain amount of physical exertion. Obviously nothing like many other sports but I would challenge anyone to bowl 18 games in one day and see how they feel later on or the next day. The bottom line is that the answer to this question is subjective. If one thinks that these other activities are sports, then bowling is a sport. The only difference is that I'm not aware of anyone drinking a beer just before they pole vault. But then again, I don't know anyone that goes Pole Vaulting on a first date.
