Is breast self-examination effective at detecting breast cancer?
There is no proof that breast self-exams save lives from breast cancer. A large study conducted by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Shanghai, China showed no benefit in terms of mortality from breast cancer. However, most experts still recommend that women perform breast self-exams on a regular, monthly basis.
