Yes. Brine based drilling muds can be discharged to a lined reserve pit in accordance with R 324.407. Salt cuttings into pit can not be placed in a pit. Solid salt cuttings must be dissolved prior to circulation to the reserve pit or disposed of in a licensed disposal facility. After September 20, 1998 free liquids may not go into the pit when drilling below the base of the Detroit River Anhydrite unless approved per R 324.407(7)(b)(iv).
