Is cannabis a civil rights issue?

0

Cannabis could be considered a civil rights issue for more then one reason. I believe that it could easily be shown as a civil rights issue, because it was old rich white cotton growers that pressed to make it illegal. Back in the day, right after slavery and the civil war ended, black people would grow cannabis for clothing and paper, and other such materials. People found out what a great plant cannabis was for these items, thus threatening the cotton industry, which was, and is, less reliable then hemp. The white man decided that they wanted a reason for marijuana to be illegal and started experimenting with it. When they found it to be smokable, they said that they black people would smoke it and go crazy, and rape the white women. Which is obviously not true, if you’ve ever smoked the herb. We don’t get crazy and we don’t try to rape people, we mellow out and chill. So yes, I would say that cannabis is a civil rights issue.
