Is cauliflower just white broccoli?

LOL, they’re actually not THAT different. Here’s a little something I read: “Broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage (the standard, white variety) are all simply different cutivars (or varieties) of the very same species, Brassica oleracea. The Brassica genus (part of the Brassicacea or mustard family) incredibly diverse culinarily speaking but the genetic differences are actually quite minor. Other cultivars of B. oleracea include kale, brussel sprouts, kohlrabi and collards among others.” Hey, try boiling some cauliflower and mashing it the same way you would boil and mash potatoes. Put some gravy on top and see if your BF can taste the difference. Anyway, it’s how I get my kids to eat more veggies.

No way. They are both part of the cabbage group though, along with something called Broccoflower which really does look like both. Also check out Romanesco Cauliflower, Broccolini/Aspiration, Broccoli Rabe and Kohlrabi which are also similar.

They are close cousins. In the same family as cabbage and brussel sprouts. Though they are similar, cauliflower has a larger, densely packed head. Broccoli flowers are in smaller clusters, and the stalk is longer. Both plants have big, dark green cabbage-like leaves that grow around the flower heads.

No. Cauliflower is cauliflower and broccoli is broccoli.
