Is Cod liver oil & Fish oils the same thing?

0

No it is not the same. Cod liver oil obviously comes from the liver of the cod fish. It contains a large amount of vitamin D and vitamin A along with the omega fatty acids. Fish oil is the subcutaneous (under the skin) fat from various fishes, and contains the omega fatty acids, but not the large concentrations of vitamin D and A. You can take fish oil in very large doses safely, however, you need to be aware of how much cod liver oil you are taking as the vitamin A levels are so high you can run into problems if you take too much. Fish oil is safe for pregnant women, but caution should be used with cod liver oil and pregnancy as high levels of vitamin A are associated with birth defects.
