Is commercial dog food bad for the dog?
Some of them can be absolutely horrid – anything with corn, by-products, or fillers for instance (since none have any nutritional value to the dog and some are known allergens). But others aren’t too bad. I’m a big fan of raw feeding and plan to do so with my dog after i move out – my parents are wimps about it, go figure – mainly because it imitates the dogs natural diet of meats and very few grains/veggies. I guess it depends on who you talk to – people who have done their research will be able to tell you about all kinds of foods that dogs can have and why it’s better for them, people who preach what they hear from their vet (most of which are poorly trained in dog nutrition) will only preach one brand for all dogs but won’t be able to say why.
