Is DemoFest like “poster” sessions I’ve seen at other conferences?

No! Poster sessions are usually comprised of cardboard and paper displays of an application’s features — VERY two dimensional. We think they should be called “p-Learning” for paper-based. At an event focused on e-Learning you should be able to see, feel, and experience the e-Learning projects. DemoFest offers you a “three dimensional” experience — you will see the programs, you will talk to the developers, and you will have a chance to interact with the programs.
