Downloading videos from youtube is like jaywalking on an empty street. It MAY be illegal, but no one is going to go after you for it. As long as you’re not downloading the videos in order to post them on another site for others to view, you’re probably in the clear. Keep in mind that just because something is on YouTube doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not in violation of copyright. For instance, if someone posts a feature film on YouTube and you download it before it’s taken down, then it’s almost certainly a violation of copyright. However, once again, the odds that someone will actually come after you for it are very slim. In general, you should do your best to respect people’s copyrights.
