Is eating vegan while pregnant as bad as smoking, drinking?
The synopsis: the recent B12 scare has led to scientists wondering if a vegan diet (naturally prone to low amounts of B12) puts mothers at risk comparable to smoking and drinking. Why I am mad: a vegan diet and B12 are not mutually exclusive. Far from it. Next, the article itself hedges every claim with, “while more research needs to be done” and “but a bit of online research”: these hedge words are basically akin to saying, “I know I can’t scientifically prove veganism is in any way linked, but I’m going to try.” Fortunately, this article was basically eviscerated by commentators of the article, citing that the one source has been overturned by reputable institutions like the American Dietetic Association.
