Is F1 Honda in a pickle?
We already know what Richard Branson is – he is just arguing over the price. I would have thought as targeted advertising F1 was perfect for Virgin Atlantic. They both have too many airheads with too much money. And how could a man with his own island pass up the opportunity to have his own full size scalextric set. Seriously – his objections to coming up with the cash are good. He wants the object of F1 to be more in line with it’s stated ‘pinnacle of motor sport’ – which it obviously isn’t at the moment. That would mean using alternative green fuels and ultimately – electric cars. GM already have the power units. It just needs someone who isn’t over 80 planning it’s future. F1 needs some radical thinking – it is rapidly looking like a dinosaur in todays’ world.
I hope that he is as determined as Mateschitz. That’s the kind of people that F1 needs. I must admit that at first, I didn’t care much about Red Bull Racing. But with every year that passes, I’m growing more fond of them. That’s the kind of teams that I like to see in F1, as opposed to teams like Honda. They managed to put together a competitive chassis, but the engine was down on power. I do know Branson because of his space tourism project. It seems like he is a genius. I think F1 could use innovators like him. I really hope Red Snook and Opposite Lock are wrong about him -even though I thumbsed up you both 🙂 – because maybe if Branson is passionate about the sport he could try to build a competitive car, and with the likes of Ross Brawn leading the design, they could be a decent team. I hope so. In any case, it can’t be much much worse than Honda 2008, can it?
