Is firewalking magic or science?
It’s science. The coals are hot, but they don’t contain very much heat. (For example, a metal pan heats up very quickly, but water heats up very slow. Metals contain less heat than water, even at the same temperature.) The ash on the coals acts as an insulator, so they don’t conduct the little heat they have very well. So long as you walk with your feet relatively flat and don’t stomp, the coals won’t stick to your feet. So no part of your foot remains in contact with the coals for very long. With practice, anyone can do it. The coals have to be properly prepared, and they have to be taught how to walk without stomping.
