Is football becoming a Wimpy sport now with new safety rules ruining the game?

This question is asking for individual opinion, and is up for interpretation, but I have mixed feelings about this question.

First, is the game really becoming ‘wimpy’? While many used-to-be legal hits are now not allowed, the game is still one of harsh, grueling physicality and includes many injuries. Different positions expirence a different amount of contact: the quarterback position is one of very little contact, and quarterbacks today are very protected by referees. However, a position like lineman or defensive back, and even running back, experience a lot of contact, and are in now way ‘wimpy’.

Now, is it ruining the game? This depends. For spectators and fans, I think less contact is less fun. Many people enjoy the big hits and ‘neck-breakers’. However, the recent rule changes save the game from many injuries, which often ruin games, and lives. When answering this question, one must keep in mind the players. During the two seasons from 2010-2012, there were approximately 7,500 concussions experienced by NFL players, and many of these patients had already suffered 5-8 cuncussions already. According to years of medical research, suffering from a single cuncussion can result in perminent mental and physical damage, and a second can more than double the effect, and so on. Having eight concussions can lead to a loss of an estimated 35 years of life. In this way, the new rules are saving the game and its players.

Football is becoming a safer sport, it is not becoming a wimpy sport because I can find maybe a hand full of guys that are the complete opposite of what I would consider a wimp than NFL guys. But although I do think from the contact perspective of the game is becoming less vicous which unfortunately is less entertaining. But with guys like Kam Chancellor, Luke Kuechly, D.J. Swearinger, and Patrick Willis I think the game will be just fine. Go watch those guys highlights and tell me if you see anything wimpy.

No, unfortnately football is a very made for TV sport and high scoring games generate more viewership. This why there are so many new rules that prevent the Safetys to actually do their job. It alows offenses to score.

It is not becoming a wimpy sport, just a safer sport. With the rules on protecting players especially with the new studies when it comes to concussions from players after the retired (Junior Seau). The new safety rules also helps protect the younger generation of football players (flag-high school) from becoming injured of sadly in some cases dying on the field.
