Is France in favour of postponing the elections and referring the matter to the Security Council?
France reiterates that she condemned the coup d’état and that she fully supports the statement made by the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States on 21 September and the action taken by this organization in support of democracy in Honduras. We support Brazil’s efforts and are working closely with that country to achieve a negotiated solution to this crisis. We also support Brazil’s request for issues relating to the inviolability of her embassy and safety of President Zelaya and Brazilian diplomatic staff to be discussed at the UN Security Council. France will participate in consultations taking place on Friday at the UN Security Council. We believe that the conditions for holding credible and legitimate elections will be met if the San José Agreement, which France fully supports, is approved and implemented by all the parties.
