Is getting a tattoo while being pregnant harmful to the baby?

Yes it is dangerous and not only that but no tattoo artist will give a pregnant woman a tattoo. I am lucky my son didnt get sick, I got a tattoo done on a tuesday and right after that I noticed I was feeling sick. So I went to the doctors on wensday and they ran a pregnancy test on me and it said negative. I still felt that something was not right so on saturday I took a home pregnancy test and I was pregnant. When I told my midwife what happened they did a bunch of blood work on me and decided that the baby was fine but told me never to do that again even though I didnt know i was pregnant yet. Well my son is here now and he is fine.

I’ve heard it’s not actually dangerous as long as you’re going to a well-reputable place, but it’s still not advised since your body changes so much during pregnancy – and after pregnancy. What you get while pregnant may not look the same after you deliver. Even if you’re not thinking of your belly, everything is more swollen and WAY more tender and sensitive while you’re pregnant. I’d recommend waiting until after delivery, just to make sure the permanent art you’re adding is actually what you want. The other factor is infection, even if everything was clean when you started, you can get infected before you heal fully. Your immune system is suppressed right now so that it doesn’t attack your baby. You are 20 times more likely right now to get sick from food-borne illnesses, and also more likely to get infections, and run-of-the-mill bugs.

It depends on where you are planning on getting the tattoo. I wouldn’t be getting it on or around your tummy or anything but otherwise as long as you are getting it at a reputable place and there is no harm of dirty needles or anything it’s actually relatively safe.

No reliable artist will do a tattoo on a pregnant woman. NOT because the tattoo process is inherantly dangerous, but because there is risk of infection, and the artists aren’t going to accept the liability.
