Is Growth Still Possible After Puberty?

0

Puberty is the period of change when young people begin to develop the outward signs of becoming an adult and when their bodies develop the means to reproduce. Puberty starts when hormones from part of the brain (pituitary gland) act on the ovaries or testes to begin sexual changes in both boys and girls. Growth plates, or commonly known as the epiphyseal plates are hyaline cartilage plates that are found in children and are present during puberty and early adulthood. These plates are located at one or both ends of bones between the epiphysis (end) and the diaphysis (shaft) of long bones. Growth occurs towards the diaphysis or shaft of the long bone. In most adults, the epiphyseal plates ossify by the mid twenties and growth stops. This is the natural part of growth. Your resulting height attributes itself to genetics and while it can be defeating to put it all on fate, the essence of nurture plays a large part on your growth as well.
