• The Bishops’ Letter “Always Our Children” states: “Church teaching acknowledges a distinction between a homosexual ‘tendency,’ which proves to be ‘transitory,’ and ‘homosexuals who are definitively such because of some kind of innate instinct.’ • Generally, homosexual orientation is experienced as a given, not as something freely chosen.” The Bishops also state: “By itself, therefore, a homosexual orientation cannot be considered sinful, for morality presumes the freedom to choose.” • The Catholic Church has consistently taught that to act on homosexual inclinations, particularly to engage in homosexual genital acts, is always objectively morally wrong.
