Is it best to buy Chicks or Hatching Eggs?
It depends on your goals. Chicks are a sure thing. We’ll get them there alive or we’ll send you more. However, some people don’t like the thought of bringing in any live animal that could carry a disease. We have a very healthy flock and have never had any illness problems, but even so, some people don’t like the thought of taking a risk. As of right now, we haven’t brought in anything except hatching eggs into our flock and it’s been over a year since the last eggs were brought in. Hatching Eggs are almost always disease free, but there is the risk that they won’t hatch or only a few will hatch. Circumstances beyond anyone’s control can cause a hatch to go poorly. Chicks are not that much more money when you consider you’re getting all the birds you planned for, so they are probably the better way to go unless you’re somewhat paranoid about disease or you just want to experience the hatching process.
