Is it easy to breed canaries?

I used to raise canaries. I loved them. They were EASY to raise, but I still recommend you get a good resource and read up on it before you attempt it. You don’t have to do all the egg-pulling stuff–my females laid 4-6 eggs each and raised them all with the help of the males, not a problem. The birds mate for life. They need to be housed in fairly large cages for breeding–my cages were 4 X 4 feet-and the birds are given nesting material, which the MALE gathers to build the nest. The babies are fed by both parents, and that’s a lot of fun to watch. I always gave fresh spinach to the parent birds to feed for the first meal after the chicks hatched–you could see the green in the crop of the chick and know it was fed. I never, never lost a baby bird–I don’t know why I had such good luck, either! So do your research–I read several good breeder books, but the best help I had was a canary breeder who was going out of business. She taught me everything before she sold me all her equipment
