Answer 1 - When the employee has a work-related injury: A supervisor may authorize use of a state vehicle to transport an employee who has been injured on the job. For severe injuries or when there is concern that complications may occur while transporting, 911 should be called. Answer 2 - When the employee is ill or experiencing symptoms of a medical condition: A state vehicle may not be used to transport an ill employee. If you want to transport a coworker in your private vehicle, your supervisor must authorize the use of leave. One thing to keep in mind if you choose to transport a coworker in your car is that if there is a need for emergency treatment enroute or you are in a collision, you will be assuming additional risk. Example 1: John falls while walking to the copier. His ankle immediately swells and won't be safe for him to drive himself to the doctor. It is permissible to use a state car in this instance.
