Is it possible for my cell phone/PDA/Smartphone/iPhone to catch a virus?
While it is possible for nearly anything with an operating system to contract some sort of malware, the prevelence of viruses (and therefore the threat of being infected) directly correlates to the popularity of the device itself. Such a case is the number of infections found on Mac OS operating systems. Until about 5 years ago, there were nearly none, since the relatively few machines in the world (compared to the growth and reach of Windows) provided much less incentives for hackers and virus engineers to make malware for. However in recent years the popularity has increased and so has the number of viruses written. This same concept can be taken to cell phones as well. The good news is that since the OS market in handheld devices is so segmented, fewer viruses are written since only a limited number of users can be reached per type of virus.
