Is it possible to completely dehumanize someone as if they are not human, but perhaps an animal?
The Holocaust is a textbook example of dehumanization Not only was dehumanization used in the Holocaust but demonization as well. It started before the Final Solution was even applied. Goebbels was producing propaganda films to dehumanize the Jews, Gypsies, and mentally incapacitated before the Camps were even opened. He did this by such early subliminals as underlighting the faces of the victims and interspersing images of scuttling rats with images of the targets. They played on the worst stereotypes of the peoples targeted. There were even children’s cartoons created to dehumanize and demonize the Jews. The lion’s share of these propaganda slots were targeting the Jews, then after that, the mentally impaired, then after that the Gypsies. These things played on all of the fears and hatred the German populace had of these peoples and used, in the case of the mentally impaired, the flawed “logic” of “unfit for human life” and it is doing them a favor.
