Is it possible to cultivate onion and garlic on drip or sprinkler?
Ans.: Yes, onion and garlic can be successfully cultivated using drip or sprinkler system of irrigation. In case of drip or sprinkler irrigation broad based furrows (BBF) should be prepared with 50-60 m length, 120 cm top width and 15 cm height. There is 40-50% water saving, 15-20% yield increase, 30-40% saving of fertilizers, weed management is easy, it is easy to harvest the crop and crop matures uniformly due to drip/ sprinkler irrigation. In case of sprinkler irrigation good quality of water must be insured and special precaution should be taken against diseases. Farmers can visit the center and detail guidance is provided to them at any time.
