Is it possible to determine a vehicles speed by measuring skid marks?

Yay to fosse4! What is calculated is called minimum initial speed. This is done by assuming the vehicle’s velocity is 0 at the end of the skid, determining the coefficient of friction for the roadway, and the distance of the skid. Other factors can be accounted for, like crush on impact, but generally they can determine the lowest speed at which a vehicle had to be travelling to leave that skid. Neat stuff!
