Is it possible to operate the Sony KE-42XBR900 without using the Media Box (MBT-XBR900)?
No, it is not possible, because the entire video processing is done by using the Media Box. I have bought a Sony KDE42XBR950 based on your review just three days back. The picture quality is excellent. But the screen itself is making a noise, not the fan noise but an electronic one. The noise varies in pitch according to the picture on display on the screen. Will this complaint disappear with use? The noise is quite noticeable and can be heard from behind the panel coming from the two upper corners of the television. The noise is quite a disappointment for the amount of $$ the set costs. Since I got it shipped from my brother’s store, it would be difficult to return it to a local retailer. Do you have any suggestions? The noise you have described in your set is not a normal or usual problem.
