I think this is a really difficult issue. Puberty does more that change us physically, it changes us mentally as well, which changes what we value, what we see as important and our tastes in everything from food and clothes to music. I saw a BBC documentary on ‘Life’ and one episode interviewed some kids just prior to puberty and a year or so later. Pre-puberty the girl was dead set against puberty and all the changes it would impose upon her. Asked the same question in the follow up interview and she said she would not have changed a thing about puberty, she was glad that she was changing, both physically and mentally. In effect she was a very different person. My point is can a prepubescent child really make life impacting decisions about sexuality. I don’t think so. Puberty is a challenging part of their life that will change them. Some will remain convinced they are the wrong physical gender. Fine, that is their choice.
