Is it safe for children to use the Narial Nasal Cup brand neti pot?
Nasal irrigation has been recommended by medical practitioners in this country for over 100 years and has been used in some other countries for over 5000 years! If your child is old enough to cooperate in the use of nasal irrigation and it is used correctly, there is no danger. We recommend the plastic version of the Narial Nasal Cup neti pot for children because it is unbreakable and the spout is slightly smaller and may be a more comfortable fit for a child’s nostrils. Just be sure to teach the child to blow through both nostrils, whether using nasal irrigation or not. Also, it is believed that many illnesses, including spinal meningitis, may be introduced through nose picking, so discourage that as well. Keeping the nasal passages clear of irritating debris is another way to discourage nose picking.
