Well… instead of just saying yes – totally! I can give accounts of this not being the case. I have a lot of Taiwanese friends and some of them are required to go for regular business trips to China. I’ve heard all of them were totally ripped off for things when they were found out to not be locals, and the ones who where identified as Taiwanese got even worse service – but this is just the tip of the ice-berg. -Two of my friends have been mugged by taxi drivers! – nother recently got taken to a karaoke bar by his ‘tour guide’, after which he was shoved into a small room with two hostess girls (and a bouncer to make sure he didn’t do anything) – they wouldn’t let him leave for at least 2 hours (the bouncer physically wouldn’t let him past), then they charged him a crazy amount of cash which he didn’t have – so they took his cash and just beat him up – he was on a business trip and he just came back last weekend with a few bruises! – There are a few cases of other petty crimes.
