Is it safe to cut a 15mg controlled release morphine pill in half?
The to that question is relative, anyone in the medical community is obligated to tell you that it is not safe and is not advisable. From a reality standpoint, 15 mg of morphine is a relatively small dose and would not likely hurt you or cause you harm. Understand though, that when you cut a controlled release pill in half, it is NO LONGER controlled release, all 15 mg of morphine will be released immediately. Doing so is not a safe practice, and for higher mg concentrations of the same medicine, i.e., 60mg or 120mg, it can be fatal if you break the pill before swallowing.
