Is it safe to get a flu shot while pregnant?

I hear it’s safe and recommended but personally I am not getting one. I work in the Pharaceutical industry and know that while doctors and scientists can predict the “strain” of flu for the season, that the flue strain mutates over time and the shot that you get at the beginning of the season can be no good later on if it’s a different strain that was predicted. So, I am not risking getting a useless shot if I don’t have to. There’s no guarantee that you won’t get the flu even if you get the shot. If you’ve never had a problem with the flu in the past, I’d suggest thinking about opting out. Personally, I’m against flu shots in general and being pregnant still won’t change my opinion. Good Luck in whatever you decide.

Since the flu shot is an inactivated vaccine (containing no live virus), vaccine experts believe it to be safe for pregnant women. An early study of the flu shot in more than 2,000 pregnant women revealed no excess malignancies in the fetus. A similar but smaller study showed no harmful effects of the flu shot on the fetus or the mother. More recent research showed no serious adverse effects from the flu shot in the perinatal period or during the first six months of infant life. While the numbers of patients in these studies are relatively small, these results are reassuring.
