Is it safe to plug a Power Surge into an extension cord?

It is perfectly safe to plug your surge strip into the extension. You should be aware of the total load on the surge plugs and make certain that the extension is sufficiently heavy duty to carry the load. Yes, if the surge pops, then it doesn’t matter if it is plugged into the wall or a cord, it will have the same result, all circuits on the strip will be protected.

A surge protector is just a component that dampens any sudden fluctuations in power line voltage. A power strip is a muliple outlet box. Most have an inexpensive surge protector built into them. Keep in mind that power line fluctuations are normal and vary gradually. Most larger fluctuations that you’d be concerned about happen in the case of motors starting up, causing a quick drop in voltage until it normalizes again. (Ever notice how your lights dim momentarily when your air conditioner kicks in?) For major fluctuations, like a lightning strike, or any kind of outside transformer disruption, the cheapie little surge protectors are pretty useless. Also, surge protectors will NOT keep you from tripping your circuit breaker. That is a function of continuous overload on the breaker’s circuit. Breakers may also be wired to control two or more rooms on one breaker. But to answer your initial question, yes, it is safe to plug in an extension cord to another room. Your only danger is physic
